On a regular morning while working at How To Manage, my supervisor handed me a high-priority request: to her dismay, she had forgotten to hand me this task a week ago when it was brought to her by the owner of the company. The task: create a website mock-up for his personal brand.
The challenge: create a personal brand that had not existed yet from scratch, with colors and elements that can form into a comprehensive, good website. This needed to be completed in 24 hours.
I designed my website mock-up elements on Adobe Photoshop and a logo for the brand on Adobe Illustrator. While I was starting from scratch, what I did know where to start at was knowing what the owner of the company liked and his personality. Assertive, aggressive, bold, gritty and an avid fan of muscle cars/Harley Davidson motorcycles. The website needed to be blunt. It also needed a color that stood out well enough and wasn't already used with HTM and its other subsidiaries.
The chosen color scheme was black and purple. To add depth with layers of gritty, rough texture to the website, torn and concrete-like textures were used. Additionally, most photos used in the mock-up were edited with a tinge of noise, once again enhancing the texture.
Deadlines are important. Even if they are tossed to you at the last minute, one of my imperatives is achieving the milestone of the project. Luckily, knowing the foundation led to successful. The drafts were handed to my supervisor and met with immensely positive feedback. Although the final result changed significantly, we were able to create a great starting point that I personally admire.
